YASA started in 2022 after a 5-year break from making music altogether. Free access to the KORG Kaossilator during COVID provided the initial spark. Early experiments included electronic compositions and experimental rap work, but the sound evolved significantly after getting Spotify's SoundTrap at launch. The ease of modern recording technology became the catalyst - while showing my dad how easy it was to record and create songs now (he also used to make and record music in Brasil in the 1960's and 1970's), the creative spark fully ignited again. YASA blends video game music aesthetics with electropop melodies and indie electronica production. Tracks range from dark brooding upbeat cuts to dreamy propulsive anthems, unified by one goal: get people moving and feeling good about existence.
HOLY mountain was a touring band that performed across the USA from 2009-2011, built around seamless sets where the music never stopped and members frequently switched instruments. I played bass, guitar, and handled most vocals alongside my younger brother and two best friends. People often said it was one of the most intense and powerful shows they'd ever been to - performance was our biggest strength by far. The sound ranged from classic indie/emo rock in the vein of American Football (one of my favorite bands) to the heavy droning atmospheres of Mogwai, incorporating math rock elements with multiple time signatures and experimental composition. After the album release, we began shifting toward a more experimental psychedelic sound with electronic elements. 13 tracks remain from that era, capturing the raw emotional power and mathematical precision that defined those shows.
Hawaii Boy was a collaboration from when i lived in the rural Midwest from 2015-2016. My collaborator was part of HOLY mountain with me and one of the other significant songwriters alongside my brother - he's my favorite person to play music with and one of the most amazing piano players I've ever met. The sound: chill singer/songwriter vibes blending indie rock and indie folk, emotional and delicate at times, raw at others, minimalistic but complex at the same time. I re-recorded and released "July 16th AM" under this project. We played a few shows - the third project I performed live with. 3 tracks capture the collaborative chemistry and intimate songwriting that defined this period.
Named after the Trigun episode "And Between the Wasteland and Sky..." (my favorite anime of all time), Beneath the Wasteland Sky is the raw emotional root of YASA's electronic optimism. This project led me to the realization that I wanted to make people feel great when they listened to my music, not sad - which is one big reason why i keep so much of it private. Started in 2008 as a personal idea generator and creative outlet, the project operated in near-total obscurity by design. Currently only 2 tracks officially available across the 2008-2017 active period, but over 30 unreleased recordings exist in the archive. Peaceful atmospheric soundscapes, nostalgic and lonely, reflective and emotional with warm ethereal character. The project title itself captures the aesthetic: vast, desolate, beautiful, searching for meaning beneath impossible skies.
